Back in May 2012, I bought a small souvenir while on a business trip to Albuquerque, NM. It’s called a Dreambox – small, wooden, and only holds items as big as a quarter. I liked the etching on the top along with the itty bitty turquoise stone set in it. I bought it like most people buy souvenirs, on the fly after visiting a national park just before heading back to the hotel.
After the trip, unpacked and at home, I unwrapped the little box from its gift shop bag and read the little card that came with it. According to the legend’s instruction, you need to write down your fondest wish, greatest desire, or strongest wish on a small piece of paper. Put the paper in the Dreambox and keep the Dreambox next to your bed so that it is the first thing you see in the morning and the last at night. If you believe in your wish with all your heart, faithfully every day, then the dream is supposed to come true.
Nifty! I just needed to figure out what to put in it. Hmmm…
At the time I was living in an apartment. Around the apartment grounds were pretty pansy flowers. I missed having a yard and flower gardens. So I picked a purple pansy and tucked it in my Dreambox. This was my wish. One day to have my own flower gardens again and a house.
The next month I got my rent renewal notice. Surprise, surprise. Rent went up again. Eek. I wasn’t ready to buy a house but that was my best option. So I went house hunting. And found the perfect house. And closed on the house, got the keys in my hand, and moved into it.
After the move, I found my Dreambox. Before I placed it back on my nightstand, I opened it up. The purple pansy was dried and the color of faded linen. Like all the color and magic was leached out of it. That’s when I realized that my wish had truly came true.
Insert Keanu Reeves “Whoa” here.
I needed to work on my next wish! What was I going to put in the Dreambox next? I thought hard about it and put the one thing I thought would best represent what I wanted. Not saying what it is because this wish is still in progress. But within a month again, something happened. Something very good.
I like my magic Dreambox.
